Inspiration for Creating a Budget: Budgeting Can be Fun!

Inspiration for Creating a Budget

If you are like most people, you aren't too fond of the idea of budgeting!  But I hope to inspire you that once you seeing your financial goals become a reality, you will experience the peace and freedom that comes from getting your finances under control through budgeting!  Approached with the right attitude, you might even find budgeting to be fun!

With budgeting, getting started is more important than getting it right the first time around.  Creating a budget and estimating expenses is never perfect the first time. You’ll need to go through a few iterations. The most important part of budgeting is tracking your expenses. If you don't track your expenses, either on paper or in software, you don't have the ability to see how you’re doing or the knowledge of when to  say “no” or “yes” to an non-essential purchase.

Budgeting Can be Fun!

Budgeting isn’t all about telling yourself “NO” all the time. In fact, budgeting may actually give you the freedom to say “Yes”  when fear of not knowing whether you will have enough money to pay the bills this month would cause you to say "No".

An important aspect and benefit of creating a budget, is separating NEED-based expenses from the  "nice-to-have" expenses.  If you have set up a budget category for a certain amount of money to enjoy eating out occassionally, you don't have to feel guilty or worry about spending money that you might need to pay for utilities or groceries. (As long as you don't go over your budget for eating out, that is!)   A dinner out is much more enjoyable knowing that it isn’t taking groceries off the table.

Of course you will have to tell yourself “No” sometimes!   If a new pair of shoes costs more than you have budgeted for clothing, you would need to tell yourself “No” until you have saved enough for it.  That might mean not using your clothing budget this month, and combining it with next months budgeted amount.  But the good new is that the sacrifice will probably only be temporary, and you won't be paying interest on something that you may be tired of before you even pay it off!
